Kaluza Scores a Double Victory at Solar & Storage Live Awards

Posted: 07 Dec 2020

London – Monday, 7th December, 2020 – Kaluza, the leading intelligent energy platform, today announces winning two awards at the ‘Solar & Storage Live’ virtual awards ceremony.

Kaluza scooped both the ‘Solar/Storage Project of the Year’ and the ‘Smart Systems and Flexibility’ awards for its pioneering technology that enables customers to create their own mini power stations at home, by storing excess rooftop solar energy and sharing it back with the local grid.

Through Western Power Distribution’s (WPD’s) groundbreaking ‘Flexible Power’ and ‘Intraflex’ projects, Kaluza has successfully managed the discharging of unused solar energy stored in sonnenbatteries so it can be used to support WPD’s network during times of high demand. In addition, Kaluza optimises battery charging shifting it to times when grid electricity is cheapest and greenest. Kaluza combined this service with electric vehicle charging, including vehicle-to-grid, in a first for the UK earlier this year.

Conor Maher-McWilliams, Head of Flexibility at Kaluza, commented: “Kaluza is making great strides in shaping a more flexible and affordable energy system. Our work with leading device manufacturers and grid operators is proving how we can integrate more renewable energy to an increasingly decentralised system and deliver real customer benefits using smart platform technology. We are delighted to pick up these two awards in recognition of this progress and the role individual homes and consumers can play in driving decarbonisation.”
