Kaluza, OVO Group’s intelligent energy platform, today announces that it has picked up the prize for ‘Technological Innovation of the Year’ at edie’s Sustainability Leaders Awards at a ceremony in London last night.

Adjudicated by an esteemed panel of sustainability experts, Kaluza was commended for tackling key challenges surrounding the transition to a zero carbon grid, through an innovative digital solution.

Kaluza is one of the world’s first AI platforms that responds in real-time to the grid’s energy supply and demand balance, wholesale prices and weather data, optimising the energy use of single devices, including home heating systems and electric cars. Connecting and controlling these devices at scale, the technology creates a more flexible grid to help push demand away from peak times, whilst meeting consumer needs and reducing carbon emissions.

Ben White, Head of Engineering at Kaluza, commented: “Energy systems must undergo profound change to transition to a zero carbon grid and Kaluza is helping lay those important foundations. Innovation in the energy technology space is growing fast and we are proud that our unique platform has been given this prestigious award. It marks a great start for what will be a big year in embracing new technology as we build a smart and secure, flexible energy system of the future.”
