Kaluza’s energy intelligence will power a seamless EV charging experience for Hyundai and Kia drivers, starting in the UK, and Australia and expanding globally

London, August 2026 - Hyundai Motor Group has selected energy intelligence platform Kaluza as its global technology partner to power electric vehicle (EV) smart charging experiences across its brands starting in August 2026. Through this first-of-a-kind partnership, Kaluza co-developed an integration with Hyundai Motor Group’s new digital ecosystem, Kia App and myHyundai App, setting the technical standard for how EVs integrate with the energy system. This partnership will begin with Kia and Hyundai in the UK, then launch in Australia. It will give EV drivers a seamless way to charge their vehicle at the times that minimise cost and carbon emissions, with the same user experience in-app. In the UK, OVO will be the first energy retailer to offer smart charging through the Kia App, giving Kia drivers on OVO a single place to manage their car and their charging.

"We selected Kaluza because of their depth of expertise in energy intelligence and their ability to work with us at the frontier of what's technically possible,” said Woong Tae Hwang, Vice President and Head of EV Energy Strategy Group at Hyundai Motor Group. “This is not just a product integration. We are co-developing the standard for how EVs participate in the energy system, and we expect the rest of the market to follow. That's the kind of partner we needed."

"This partnership is about more than smart charging," said Stephen Fitzpatrick, CEO at Kaluza. "Kaluza and Hyundai Motor Group are building the new industry standard for how electric vehicles integrate with the energy system, starting in the UK and Australia. The market will follow. That's what this kind of co-development is for. It's also a critical first step in building the foundation for vehicle-to-grid services that can reduce energy costs and support the energy transition for years to come."

“EV drivers shouldn’t have to think about when to charge, the app should do it for them,” said Alex Thwaites, Director of EV at OVO. “Working directly with Kaluza and Hyundai Motor Group means smart charging now sits where Kia drivers already are, on a connection that’s far more reliable than anything the market has offered so far. Our customers will charge at the cheapest, greenest times without lifting a finger.”

Through close partnerships with major global brands, Kaluza Flex helps automotive companies strengthen their customer relationships, unlock recurring revenue, balance the energy grid, and turn device owners into active participants of a smarter, cleaner grid.

Embedded into an OEM’s app, Kaluza energy intelligence allows EV drivers to manage charging from their phone, decide when their vehicle needs to be ready, and save money by using the cheapest and cleanest energy.

Hyundai Motor Group and Kaluza are integrating smart charging controls natively into the Kia App and Hyundai’s digital platforms. The partnership lays the groundwork for more advanced capabilities, including vehicle-to-grid (V2G) services planned from 2027. This will enable Kia and Hyundai drivers to save on their energy bills by charging when renewable energy is plentiful and cheap, while also supporting a more resilient grid. For OVO, the integration launches with Kia, and Kia drivers currently using the OVO Charge app will move across to the Kia App in early Autumn. Hyundai drivers are expected to follow shortly afterwards.

Kaluza is an energy intelligence company building the software infrastructure for a flexible, decentralised and low-carbon grid of the future. It works with leading energy utilities across Europe, Australia and Asia.
